You are incorrect - our patient's second sound at the upper left sternal edge is single in expiration and split in inspiration.

This is a graphic example of a second heart sound that is not detectably split in inspiration. This occurs when either A2 or P2 is missing or too soft to hear, when A2 is delayed, so that movement of P2 is insufficient to separate the two sounds or when there is a loss of the "hang-out" interval, as occurs with pulmonary hypertension.
