This rhythm strip shows sinus rhythm with premature ventricular complexes. The characteristic features demonstrated here include:
an underlying sinus rhythm with normal
P waves preceding a normal QRS. Early or
premature QRS complexes that are wide and different from the sinus QRS. As shown, these may occur consecutively.
Note that the
ST-T configuration of the premature complexes is different from that of the sinus beat and that there are no P wave associated with these complexes.
The significance of premature ventricular complexes is determined by the clinical setting in which they occur.
