Premature ventricular complexes

This rhythm strip shows sinus rhythm with premature ventricular complexes. The characteristic features demonstrated here include: an underlying sinus rhythm with normal P waves preceding a normal QRS. Early or premature QRS complexes that are wide and different from the sinus QRS. As shown, these may occur consecutively. Note that the ST-T configuration of the premature complexes is different from that of the sinus beat and that there are no P wave associated with these complexes.

The significance of premature ventricular complexes is determined by the clinical setting in which they occur.
