Therapeutic Approach - Our Patient
The most important therapeutic approach for patients with uncomplicated mitral valve prolapse is reassurance. Patients require no restriction of activities. Association with other conditions such as Marfan's syndrome or significant mitral regurgitation modifies these recommendations.
Current guidelines suggest that our patient does not need endocarditis prophylaxis. The patient's 24-hours ambulatory monitor revealed only frequent premature ventricular complexes (PVCs) and rare ventricular couplets.
In spite of reassurance, the palpitations continued and caused the patient considerable distress. You elect to treat the arrhythmia.
